ANIMATING EXPERIENCE

bringing graphics to life

Since installing Adobe Animate as part of the Creative Cloud package, I have found immense joy in using the software to bring 2D animations to life. This has often been something I have done in my free time. But I am now exploring avenues in which to share my skills in creating animations in a professional capacity.

I now have several years of experience in Adobe Animate, and I have fully figured out how to bring the best out of the software’s capabilities, so I am now very interested in offering these skills to clients who are interested.

moshi online

Client: Moshi Online
Industry: Website preservation project
Services: Animating of assets into usable in-game files.

The Brief:

Moshi Online is a fan-hosted re-creation of the original Moshi Monsters website that closed in 2019. This recreation has been actively endorsed by the copyright holders (Mind Candy Ltd.). In addition, I received explicit permission to cite these works in this portfolio.

What I Did:
Recently, in my spare time, I have worked on various animations for in-game characters. I have taken this as an opportunity to hone my craft and develop skills for future work, as this work is provided for free. For this project I…

  – Rigged and animated the characters I was provided with to give them life and ensure they met the quality of the official animations. (Using Adobe Illustrator and Animate)

  – Organised these animations into files that the game could receive, and provided sounds and information for them.

The Result:
I have been able to further improve my skills in 2D animation, learning how to give the impression of 3D movement under the limitations of 2D animation.

Also thankyou to Brandon @cloudsticks for providing the renders of the first, third, and fourth pieces here, which I used to animate.

Other works

Gogo’s Resort

The Brief:
I also enjoy tinkering with various projects in my spare time. For example, Gogo’s Resort was a conceptual project I worked on in 2022/2023 to see if it would be possible to work on a mobile game at some point. While I have moved on to other projects, this still taught me a lot about graphics design.

What I Did:
Used Adobe Animate to create fun and engaging characters and graphics in various styles. Experimented with vector assets and a more stylised pixel art approach.

The Result:
The final result showed that I was fully capable in conceptualising and creating my own world, characters, and assets. This is a project I am completely open to returning to if the time is right.
